Breaking Down the Rules of Spelling

This session presents an in-depth overview of our philosophy as well as explicit training instruction for spelling at SBSUM. Rather than memorizing a finite list of sight words, students are taught foundational phonetics and spelling rules that will equip them to independently decipher and spell every word in the English language. Come and learn about the curriculum we use in the spelling years, and how to instruct your student in our materials at home.

Latin is introduced in 3rd and 4th grades as an additional support for helping students to understand the way the English language has been contructed, which will aid them in mastery for the years in English language arts for years to come. Come and learn how to teach Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes at home with the supporting materials in your satellite lessons.
